I am in a really desperate spot
I am a mid-fify year old female who has had a lot, a lot of health issues over the years. The last 13 years have been the absolute worst.
I was in a coma in hospital for 3 weeks, and when i came out of the coma I was totally, profoundly deaf in both ears. There was no hearing aids strong enough to help me hear. Two years later I had a Cochlear Implant put in. It has been an absolute godsend. With the implant I am able to hear sort of normal. I still rely on lip-reading to go with the hearing and I use Closed Caption for watching tv. I have a special Relay phone so I can understand what is being said on the phone.
I even was able to get re-married while I could not hear anything. I had learned to lip read well enough to get through the service.
Two years after I lost my hearing, my kidneys failed and I was on dialysis for 2 1/2 years until I was able to get a cadavor kidney. So far, my donated kidney is doing very well.
My problem is: my equipment (processor) for the implant is now not working. I can't evenget it fixed anymore because it is now obsolete. I haveto get a new processor for my implant so I can hear again. I really miss hearing my husband,my children and grandchildren talking. It is a whole different world when you can't hear anything at all. The processor is what holds all the different programs, microphone volume and sensitivity etc.
In order to get this new equipment I have to pay $2,500. The hospital where I go to for my implant and audiologist will not release the equipment until it is paid for in full..
I work part-time because of my health. My husband works Full-time but has all the household bills to pay. We don't even have anything in our Retirement fund that we can use. I am pleading for some help to pay for this new equipment. It is awful when you can't hear your family telling storys, or needing to confide.
Please, is there anyone out there that would be so kind and generous to help me out? I would be forever grateful. I would really like even if I could do work from my home computer. Something that I do not have to put money out for some kit or something. Just honest work.
